This three-day masterclass in Falkirk’s new Mosaic & Glass studio welcomes Brazilian artists Solange and Alexandre Piffer, who will teach the art of picasiette mosaics. The technique, meaning “scavenger” in French, involves using broken china to create intricate designs, inspired by folk artist Raymond Isidore. Participants can craft flowers or animals like roosters, dogs, or cats while learning about curvature, colour, and texture.
The workshop is both creative and intense, with rewarding results. Students are encouraged to bring their own china—perhaps sentimental pieces—to incorporate into their mosaics, or they can explore charity shops for unique finds. Host Rhona Duffy will also share her collection of china for added inspiration.
Suitable for both beginners and experienced mosaic artists, this immersive experience is a fantastic opportunity to learn from internationally renowned artists while creating a meaningful and personal mosaic piece.
