Over this fun five day course, you’ll learn the comprehensive skills involved in making a solid timber carcase construction with a hand-cut, fitted dovetailed drawer. On completion, this project may be wall mounted for future use as a bedside table or keepsake box.
This course is suitable for students who have completed the Introduction to Furniture Making - Part One: Frame Construction course, or with previous experience.
You will cover:
- Design factors for the functionality of drawer and carcase construction
- Considerations of grain direction, wood movement and aesthetics when selecting components from stock
- The process of accurately marking out joinery
- Cutting and fitting dovetail joinery
- Sanding, detailing and pre-finishing prior to glue up
- Gluing up and clamping techniques
- Clean up and final assembly of carcase and drawer
- Fitting of cleat for wall mounting/ installation
- Drawer fitting
