Tapestry weaving is very versatile medium and can be manipulated in many ways. Leave the square or rectangular format behind and learn how to pull and manipulate your weaving to create curves and bends in tapestry. By leaving areas of exposed and unwoven warp the tapestry, when removed for the loom the tapestry can be manipulated to create shaped or 3d tapestries.
During this workshop you will learn how to plan how to create 3d and curved forms, before going on to create small samples exploring a range of techniques.
Working in a professional tapestry artist studio you will have access to a range of materials and equipment and will learn to
- Set up simple frame loom using a continuous warp.
- Shaping your tapestry
- Create curves and angles in tapestry – pulled warp technique.
- Work with open weave and exposed warps.
- Finishing and presenting your work
