learning how to transform small objects and salvaged materials into non-precious contemporary jewellery.

Bring along your own found objects and you can discuss with the tutor if they have the potential to be upcycled into something wearable! We’ll explore a variety of cold connection methods such as jump rings, wire rivets, tube rivets and tab settings, and explore not just their functional possibilities, but also their potential to enhance the design of your jewellery.

With a bit of careful consideration, a well-placed rivet or tab can become an integral part of your jewellery design. You can use cold connections to join almost any non-precious materials that reflect your own influences and style. You could assemble anything from kitch plastic nick-nacks to tasteful foraged wood. Explore the possibilities of combining colourful plastics with muted beach finds, shiny new objects with weathered old ones, pristine edged lego bricks with rusted metal … the possibilities are endless!

We’ll begin the day with an overview of all the different techniques we’ll cover, and the different ways they might feature in your finished jewellery pieces. After some short demonstrations, you’ll have the opportunity to try the techniques yourself and practice under the supervision of your expert tutor. CSSJ provide you with a variety of materials, in addition to your own, that you can join together using your new skills.
