Elin is a Swedish glass Artist-Design-Maker, based in Dunblane
Since she graduated from her MA in Design & Applied Arts at Edinburgh College of Art, she combines traditional glass making techniques making contemporary designs, which are heavily influenced by her Scandinavian background and early glass training in Sweden, making unfussy forms in subtle colour blends.
She balances her time between making small-batch production for galleries across the UK as well as producing bespoke pieces for individuals and businesses. Elin’s work can be found installed in offices, garden spaces and on cruise ships.
Elin is very passionate to keep the glass blowing craft alive and is regularly teaching classes for the public and she assists professional artist’s and design students realising ideas in molten glass.
Her designs often reveal a sense of movement, capturing the inherent energy and fluidity of working with molten glass. Elin loves being ‘in the moment’ when she is creating, she finds is mentally therapeutic and she often come up with new designs whilst making something else, letting the material be her guide.
Elin’s sand cast glass sculptures take inspiration from nature around her like rocks, Ice and water, and she likes exploring light and textures within her sculpture.
In 2024 Elin was selected to show with ‘Fluidity’ an exhibition which celebrated women in glass at Raven’s Gallery in LA, and she was also selected into the Homo Faber Guide by the Michelangelo Foundation, for her craft excellence in glass blowing.
SAY Awards Trophy Designer Winner 2024:
Elin designed the 2024 Scottish Album of the Year (SAY) Award trophies:
Her sand-cast sculptures were cast from natural rocks found near her studio. Each trophy is unique and incorporate fragments of coloured waste glass from previous commissions mixed with hand-poured molten glass. The winner’s award also includes 23.5 carat gold leaf. This opportunity has started Elin’s journey in recycling her glass waste and making her practice more sustainable.
‘Meet the Artist – Saturday 1st of February 3-5pm
