You will start at the very beginning, learning how to select the best material for your project before we pick up a hook, cast on, and start stitching away. Over the course of this skill building workshop you’ll learn the classic granny square pattern along with three essential stitches—chain, double and treble crochet—and master the art of seamless colour changes. With Cotton DK yarn, you’ll craft multiple panels and learn how to join them together to create bigger finished pieces, whether it’s a coaster set, a table runner or a more ambitious project like a cushion cover or shopper. Cynthia will guide you every step of the way, ensuring you gain confidence and unleash your creativity in colourful crochet. This class is suitable for complete beginners, or for anyone who wants to join us for some sociable stitching and improve their crochet technique in a supportive group environment.

Outcomes:
  • How to hold your hook and material
  • how to start a project by learning the different cast-on methods
  • common stitches used in crochet patterns
  • how to read a written pattern (we’ll cover UK and US terminology so you can read any pattern)
  • how to read a crochet chart illustration
  • how to combine your stitches into a project.
  • And at the end of the course you will be able to step away with a collection of swatches and ideas of how you can incorporate them into homeware projects, as well as a brand new easy crochet project to keep that knowledge and muscle memory locked in.
