South Ayrshire based ceramicist, Hannah Spicer, studied Three-Dimensional Design with ceramics at Grays School of Art in Aberdeen and graduated in 2018. Since then, Hannah has been expanding her practice and skills and has developed both hand-built and thrown collections. Hannah’s collections are inspired by the Scottish coast and the rocks and textures that are found there. She began to use samples of rocks and textures found in Aberdeenshire for her degree show collection and her concept grew from there. The designs mimic natural formations found at coastal locations. The process Hannah uses to create her rock moulded pieces has many stages from, rolling the clay, to hand pressing and sculpting each piece. Hannah uses stoneware clay for both her hand-built rock moulded pieces and her wheel thrown work. Hannah’s work is shown to mirror the Scottish Coast.
