Hagchat 2: Caroline Dear and Jo McDonald with Fife Contemporary

Closing date: 15 May 2025

Fife Contemporary is pleased to present a special online #Hagchat to mark the launch of the online exhibition, "Hag. Knowledge, Power & Alchemy through Craft." During this online event, artists Jo McDonald and Caroline Dear will discuss the unexpected connections and crossovers in their work.

Jo and Caroline’s works are displayed opposite each other in the "Hag." exhibition at Dunfermline Carnegie Library Galleries, providing fascinating parallels and comparisons. Both artists gather, process, and weave materials to tell stories of human and natural history. Caroline Dear’s practice takes her to rural Skye, where she gathers botanical grasses and fibres to weave historically influenced Gaelic garments. Across Scotland, in Edinburgh, Jo McDonald gathers texts, pages, and books to weave material knowledge into her contemporary tapestry sculptures. While their alchemy of materials stems from different contexts, both artists follow similar paths to produce thought-provoking results.

With only a few weeks left to visit the exhibition in person at Dunfermline Carnegie Libraries & Galleries, this event celebrates the launch of the exhibition’s online presentation.
