Masterclass with Michael Kruzich: Ravenna Method & Andamento Five-Day Intensive

Join San Francisco-based mosaic artist Michael Kruzich for an intensive five-day masterclass in Central Scotland, where you’ll learn the Ravenna Method and Andamento principles. This class combines ancient mosaic techniques with contemporary applications, focusing on the direct method with temporary binder (lime or clay). You'll explore how to plan and draw Andamento (the flow or course of tesserae) and how it enhances the natural perception of form, especially in figurative mosaics.
 

Under Michael's guidance, you’ll work with traditional tools like the hammer and hardie to cut smalti and stone while creating a reproduction mosaic. The workshop also covers important mosaic principles, including material selection, terminology, and alternate finishing techniques.
