Japanese stab binding is a most satisfying way of binding single sheets of paper together, characterised by an exposed spine with stitch patterns that range from simple to intricate and down right mind boggling! In this class Cass shares her upcycled take on three of her favourite Japanese stab stitches.
Create a hardcover hinged book with an intricate hemp leaf Japanese stab stitch, incorporating remnant material into the cove, decorative inner pages and pockets, with a nifty page divider. In class, you will create a landscape book roughly 26.5 x 10.5cm but Cass will share how to scale up and down should you want to create the same style of book in different shapes and sizes at home. You will also have the opportunity to try some simpler Japanese Stab stitches and create a set of paperback notebooks.
Leave the workshop with a collection of books, new skills and follow up video instructions that you can refer to for a reminder of what is covered in class. You will leave the workshop with a finished book as well as the skills and confidence to carry on bookbinding at home.
