The Hugo Burge Foundation is excited for its first Open Studios of 2025! They will be hosting a range of visiting artists and creators at the Makers Market, introducing new Springboard Studio tenants, offering tours and craft demonstrations, and inviting visitors to explore their blossoming Walled Garden. There will be plenty to eat, drink, and experience, so guests are encouraged to book their free tickets now.
Makers Market
The Hugo Burge Foundation has a fantastic roster of exciting new and returning artists and creators at the Makers Market this year. Marianne Hazlewood will dazzle visitors with her wonderful botanical prints and designs. Former Skyboat resident Nancy Macdonald will be selling beautiful cyanotypes, as well as demonstrating the process behind creating them. The market will also feature a booth from previous Chippendale students, offering an array of magnificently crafted wooden objects. More stalls are expected, so visitors should keep an eye out for updates.
The Foundation’s wonderful garden team will also have a stall where visitors can purchase plants grown in the glasshouses, honey from on-site bees, and even a Hugo Burge Foundation tote bag!
The residents of The Hugo Burge Foundation are thrilled to welcome visitors into their creative havens, where they create some of their most inspirational work!
The 7th generation rush seat chair-makers and craftsmen Richard Platt and Sam Cooper will have their workshop doors open, offering a fascinating glimpse into their work methods and tools at The Marchmont Workshop. Visitors can also stroll down the lane to the Marchmont Silversmithing Workshop, where resident silversmiths Scott Smith and Katie Watson will be eager to greet them and provide a behind-the-scenes look at the craft of silversmithing.
The Foundation is also beyond excited to introduce three new Springboard Studio residents: Anna Olafsson, Sara Rhys, and Scarlett Farrer!
Sara Rhys is a mixed media artist and illustrator, and she will be based in the Upper Powerhouse Studio.
Scarlett Farrer is a sustainability-focused textile designer specializing in hand-spinning yarn and hand-weaving. Recently awarded the Heritage Crafts Young Weaver of the Year 2024, Scarlett will be working in the North Studio.
Anna Ólafsson is a painter, printmaker, sculptor, designer, and metalworker who engraves, carves, and chases precious metals, as well as working in steel, aluminium, and bronze. She will be based in the South Studio.
Tickets are free but timed so make sure to book early to ensure you snag a time-slot that works for you! Last entry will be 3 PM.
