Pendant and a box for a glasses case

An empty case for glasses, once belonging to my grandfather, was the starting point of the collection. The empty space inside of it, became the inspiration for the concept of ‘filling the void' metaphorically and literally. I created two pieces that fit inside, a box referring to the case being a container and a pendant with silicone stoppers alluding to an eyewear retainer's role in holding something important close at all times.

Container for a muffin dish

The container responds to a ceramic muffin dish from a tea set and has a press - formed bottom following the original dish’s curve in order to fit comfortably inside of it. As a nod to the golden tip on the ceramic handle, a hidden wearable pin is incorporated in the silver handle.

Box for a sugar bowl

The cylindrical box was created in response to a ceramic sugar bowl from a tea set and fills the central void of the bowl. Incorporating a press formed bottom which sits nicely on the slightly domed bottom of the sugar bowl. The lid of the piece is also press formed reflecting the concave shape of the ceramic lid.

Wall pieces for a watch

The set of two wall pieces respond to a watch once worn by my grandfather, representing what is no longer there. By piercing out the shape of the watch in silver and sand blasting its silhouette on the gilding metal, a ‘shadow’ is created. Even when the silver piece is removed, the watch’s presence lingers.

Candleholder for a clock

The candleholder was made as a response to a clock, aiming to symbolise the passing of time through the burning of the candle. The dynamic design follows the original clock’s tilted position and the circular and conic shapes which form it. The piece consists of four detachable parts that slot together to form a candleholder with a dripping dish and match holder.

Pendant and a ring for a pocket scale

I explore the concept of value and subvert traditional norms. A silver measuring scale - typically made from base metal - and a brass wedding band instead of gold.<br><br>The ring fits in a cavity on my grandfather’s pocket scale. The solder join is messy, emphasizing that precious doesn't mean perfect, rare or expensive; it simply needs to mean something to you. <br><br>The pendant refers to the object’s function, acting as a scale when hanging from it. The shape of the ring is sand blasted on the silver to mark where it should sit so the scale can balance<br>

Wall piece for a watch

The silhouette of my grandfather's watch is pierced out of silver sheet as a shadow of the watch and what was once there.
