Acme Atelier Bespoke Kilts

Hand drawn and printed this kilt charts the elevation

of the hills along the north shore of Loch Voil, backdrop to Monochyle Mhor and the annual Mhor Festival for which it was made. Hand embroidery showcases the flora and fauna in the glen at the time, which is ongoing.

This kilt celebrates completing my training in traditional kiltmaking at the Keith Kilt School, created using local tweed and botanically printed on the silk lining using the local flora and fauna that would have originally been used to dye the yarn the tweed is woven from.

A commission celebrating a family history at a key moment in their life, charting special moments, places and references in the letterpress printed lining, along with the childrens names block printed over the three types of cotton batik that form the main body of the kilt.

Developed from an exhibition project at York Art Gallery, where a collaboration with the Kaiser Chiefs produced the art and sound experience “When All is Quiet”. The leatherwork was designed and made to include a signature from the exhibition which references each band members lead when recording.

Made using remnants and vintage fabric to incorporate zipped pockets within the pleats and crate a lightweight practical and pretty travelling kilt for hot climates.

Constructed with one body and two detachable aprons, this single kilt has an adaptable fit for two children. Seperate aprons allow for individual fabrics to be used on each, a deep hem, 4 hidden pleats plus the existing 21, enabling it to grow with both of them as they age.

Commissioned to celebrate the life of a family member this kilt is made only from end of roll stocks, pieced together innovately using a Kinguissie pleat formation in a contemporary placement over each hip, with digitally printed lining recording destinations of significance for the wearer.
