The Illustrated Freelancer’s Guide is a practical resource for the increasing number of artists, makers, writers and other creatives working freelance in Scotland today.
An easy to reference guide, written by Heather Parry and illustrated by Maria Stoian, it uses a highly visual combination of comics and text to highlight key issues, model scenarios and educate creative workers about how to protect themselves with regards to payment, copyright and creative work in general.

The Market for Craft
The Crafts Council has published a rich analysis of who is buying craft, why and where. Using survey findings from consumers in the UK and two US cities, as well as makers and intermediaries supporting craft businesses, the report shows how craft sales are worth £3bn to the UK economy and that there is a growing new generation of younger craft consumers. The report will help makers to develop their businesses, understanding in much greater depth who their consumers are and what drives their appreciation of craft.

Understanding Diversity in the Arts (2017)
This report from Creative Scotland provides a summary of the findings of an online survey entitled Understanding Diversity in the Arts. The survey was distributed through Creative Scotland communications channels and generated over 1,500 responses over the month-long period 30 September to 31 October 2016.
As part of the continuing work following the publication of Creative Scotland’s Arts Strategy (2016) - which called for greater diversity across all areas of the arts - the survey was undertaken to help build a clearer picture about who is working in the arts today and what the perceived barriers are to entering, progressing and developing in the arts professionally.

Crafts Businesses in Scotland
This study was commissioned in partnership by the Scottish Arts Council, Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Enterprise Glasgow, and was undertaken during 2001 by Dr Andrew McAuley and Dr Ian Fillis of the Department of Marketing at the University of Stirling.
The aim of the survey was to provide accurate and current data on crafts activity in Scotland, with particular emphasis on economic and business aspects. This includes information on the scale and type of work being done, existing markets for Scottish crafts, and the usage of support from various sources for the development of crafts in Scotland. The research provides a clearer insight into the size and growth potential of the industry
