The Craft Pottery Charitable Trust - Apply for Grants

Small grants available to studio ceramic artists.

The Craft Pottery Charitable Trust was set up in 1991 by the CPA to provide small grants to studio ceramic artists, and to support a variety of professional and educational activities. Income comes from grants, personal donations, bequests and other fundraising activities.

Program Description
The Ceramic Art: Grants to Artists program supports studio-based ceramic practices and curatorial research in contemporary studio ceramics. Grants cover direct expenses for a period of independent research, creation, production of artworks for public exhibitions or development of prototypes and promotional material.

Grant Amount
The maximum grant amount that you can receive from this program is £1,500.

Grants can be used for a period of independent research and creation of a body of work; the development of prototypes; participation in artists’ residencies and specialised professional development activities (such as workshops or specialised training); as well as production of work for confirmed public exhibitions in the UK and/or abroad.

Eligibility
Note that meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee that you will receive a grant.

To apply you must be a British citizen or have permanent resident status, as defined by UK Visas and Immigration.

You must also meet the definition of a professional artist, which is an artist who:

  • has specialised training in the artistic field (not necessarily in academic institutions)
  • is recognized as a professional by his or her peers (artists working in the same artistic tradition)
  • is committed to devoting time to artistic activity

To meet the definition of a professional ceramic artist or a contemporary studio ceramics curator, you must also have:

  • maintained a professional practice for at least two years after or during specialised training
  • produced an independent body of work
  • for an artist: had at least two public presentations of your work in a professional context over a two-year period
  • for a curator: curated at least two exhibitions or public presentations of contemporary studio ceramics in a professional context over a two-year period.
