Glasgow Ceramics Studio is delighted to announce that applications are now open for its Living Wage Graduate Internship Programme for 2025.
Closing date: 7 Feb 2025
The internship runs for 6 months and we will be filling two positions in this round: 1st April - 30th September 2025 and 1st July - 31st December 2025.
Glasgow Ceramic Studio is a professionally equipped ceramics studio situated at Wasps, Hanson Street Glasgow. Our Living Wage Graduate Internship runs in conjunction with our Open Access Membership and Community Outreach Programmes. The first year of this endeavour was kindly supported by Creative Scotland and a generous private donation (March ’22 - March ’23).
Now a self-supporting initiative, our Open Access Memberships funds all overheads, a part time living wage for 4 interns per year and Community Outreach Workshops. It's an opportunity for recent graduates or emerging artists at a similar level working in ceramics to access the facilities they need to launch new making practices while receiving a stipend for part time experience in the same organisation. It aims to advance an intern’s skills and knowledge of ceramics and business in a supportive studio environment and gain experience in the running of a working studio.
The intern will be in the studio for 40 hours a week (10am - 6pm five days a week including one weekend day). 20 hours are spent on tasks involved in running the Open Access Programme or are of benefit to our workshop. Our interns receive a stipend as remuneration for these hours that equates to a living wage rate of £12.00/hour (hourly stipend increases with national living wage rates so may increase) plus a free shared workspace, access to all our shared facilities, reduced costs on some firings and materials plus mentoring when requested. Interns do not receive remuneration for the additional 20 hours per week but these will be spent working on the intern’s own practice.
Internship tasks include: facilitating the studio’s Open Access Membership Programme, overseeing the smooth running of Glasgow Ceramic Studio’s ‘Room 2’ studio space, helping out with workshops and members projects as well as working on one longer term ‘Continuous Development Project’ for the benefit of the studio.
Please fill out an application form (found on Glasgow Ceramics Studio's website with additional info sheet) and send along with a recent CV, a portfolio of up to 5 images of your work, and a proposal of what project you would undertake in your own practice during the internship to ruthmaedesign@gmail.com by 7/02/2024 at 11.59pm.
