Meet the Inches Carr Craft Bursary 2024 Recipients

Marzena Ostromecka

Emerging MakerMarzena Ostromecka

Inches Carr Craft Bursary

Based in Edinburgh, Marzena Ostromecka holds an MFA in Glass from Edinburgh College of Art and her creative practice embodies both playfulness and interactivity.

Working in glass and mixed materials such as copper, brass and found objects, Marzena creates unique pieces that embrace fun and human connection. 

Monica Findlay

Emerging MakerMonica Findlay

Inches Carr Craft Bursary

Monica Findlay is a Glasgow-based metalsmith whose practice is driven by a curiosity for the material presence of the past.  

Graduating in 2021 from The Glasgow School of Art with a BA (Hons) in Silversmithing and Jewellery Design, Monica explores memories and traces of the past through her use of organic textures, embossing and hand-drawn wirework. 

Ruth Mae Martin

Emerging MakerRuth Mae Martin

Inches Carr Craft Bursary

Ceramicist Ruth Mae Martin lives and works in Glasgow. Her practice investigates the symbiosis between people and their surroundings, including her current work inspired by architectural motifs and plasterwork.  

Ruth studied at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design and the Royal College of Art, graduating with an MA in Ceramics and Glass in 2022.

William Threlfall

Emerging MakerWilliam Threlfall

Inches Carr Craft Bursary

William Threlfall is a woodworker based on the Isle of Skye. Passionate about using locally sourced sustainable timber, he mills windfallen lumber from local woodlands to retain a strong connection with his materials. 

Favouring hand tools and traditional woodworking techniques, William creates wood furniture and sculptures with beauty and longevity.

Kate Colin

Established MakerKate Colin

Inches Carr Craft Bursary

Designer/maker Kate Colin works in Glasgow with a contemporary practice focused on folded paper forms.  

Her range of work includes installations, wall art, and lighting created using intricate scoring and paper folding techniques. Inspired by origami and geometric form, Kate’s pieces explore how light, colour, and geometry interact.

Soizig Carey

Established MakerSoizig Carey

Inches Carr Craft Bursary

Soizig Carey is an artist and designer-maker specialising in contemporary jewellery. Her Glasgow-based practice is rooted in slow design and making, feminism and anti-capitalist consumer culture.  

Using casting, engraving, embossing and riveting processes, Soizig creates precious metal forms that can be worn or serve as meaningful and playful objects.

Viv Lee

Established MakerViv Lee

Inches Carr Craft Bursary

Inspired by childhood memories and the artefacts of ancient cultures, Viv Lee is a maker based in Glasgow creating hand-built functional sculptures from clay.  

Where possible, she gathers materials from the local environment, such as wild clay for incorporating into clay bodies and slips, stones for mark-making, or oyster shells for glazes.
