Join Professor Norman Cherry and Dauvit Alexander, joint curators of the touring exhibition Swords into Ploughshares: Knives into Jewels, for their talk and Q&A with Professor Ross Birrell, GSA Professor in Contemporary Art Practice & Critical Theory. The exhibition preview will follow later that evening in the Reid Gallery upstairs.
Together Cherry, Alexander and Birrell will discuss the nationwide problem of knife crime and accompanying exhibition that features thirty-four international jewellery and metals artists. These artists have created innovative and exciting new bodies of work by refashioning, adapting or otherwise transforming knives which have been surrendered to UK police, mainly through the West Midlands Police knife surrender scheme.
The exhibition is hosted GSA School of Design, and includes works by Head of Silversmithing and Jewellery Anna Gordon and Head of the School of Design Professor Stephen Bottomley.
