Apply now for fully funded residency in memory of Lou Gardiner – Summer 2025
Closing date: 11 Apr 2025
The Hugo Burge Foundation is offering a fully funded residency in memory and honor of Lou Gardiner, a British artist and designer renowned for her unique contemporary embroidered art. A passionate ambassador for the power of stitch and promoter of individual creative identity, Lou’s influence has helped shape the Foundation’s mission of using creativity to transform lives and communities.
This residency, running from Monday, July 14th to Monday, August 11th, 2025, is open to artists working with textiles, particularly embroidery.
The residency includes exclusive studio space, accommodation in one of the Foundation’s Hobbit Pods, and a weekly stipend of £350. While there are no specific expectations for the work created, the Foundation hopes the selected artist will host at least one public event, such as a creative workshop, talk, demonstration, performance, or educational activity.
The resident will have the opportunity to engage with other artists and makers on-site, including another visiting artist in residence. Mentorship will be provided by Dr. James Fox, the Foundation’s Creative Director.
