Introduction to Culture and Climate action - Craft Edition

Starting Point is a monthly introduction to climate action for artists, makers and cultural organisations.

Closing date: 27 Feb 2025

This special craft edition of our Starting Point online workshop will introduce makers to environmental action and climate justice, and the many ways you can approach it including mitigation, adaptation and using your influence.

You will be given a background to Culture for Climate Scotland and shown how to take your first steps to tackle your carbon emissions and adapt to the impacts of climate change.

Culture for Climate Scotland will talk about how - through your practices, work and exhibitions - you can influence your customers, audiences and communities about climate change and sustainability.

You will be given an overview of climate justice and how it relates globally to craft. Inspiring case studies and examples from Scottish makers will be given, such as Studio Frostwood CeramicsCaroline Dear textiles, and jeweller Jo Pudelko, and information shared about the upcoming relaunch of the Green Crafts Initiative, a collaborative network with Craft Scotland.

Examples of creative climate action by makers in Scotland, will ve explored through case studies. There will be an opportunity to ask us any questions you may have about starting your sustainability journey.

Do you need support to attend?

Everyone is welcome at our events.

Culture for Climate Scotland know that it’s sometimes difficult for everyone to attend because of unintended barriers and want to make any necessary adjustments to events so that no one is excluded. These adjustments will, most likely, differ from event to event so help is needed to get it right. Please inform Culture for Climate Scotland of your accessibility requirements for this event during the Eventbrite registration process or get in touch by email sarah.ohare@cultureforclimate.scot if you would like to provide more information or ask any questions.
